This makes me crazy!

6:30 am - Get deposit ready
7:00 am - Wake up Brody and feed him
7:20 am - Change Brody's diaper and put his clothes on for the day
7:30 am - Call several lube shops until I find one that can give me an oil change FAST this morning.
8:00 am - Call Farmer Coop and ask them to deliver 200 gallons of propane next week
8:30 am - Put Brody down for a nap
9:00 am - Teach aerobics
9:45 am - Change clothes and put Brody in his car seat
10:00 am- Teach aerobics at the Senior Center
10:30 am - Make a deposit at the bank for work
10:35 am - Pick up a t-shirt someone at the gym ordered
10:40 am - Get gas in the car
10:45 am - Feed Brody
11:05 am- Change Brody's diaper
11:30 am- Get all necessary tax info together to do W-2's and 1099's over Christmas break
12:00 pm - Wash off tires (there so mud caked they're off balance)
12:25 pm - Have post office hold mail
12:40 pm - Finish packing and pack up car
2:00 pm - Feed Brody

Do you see time in there for the necessary oil change???? How many of you think this timeline will go as planned today? lol
Just talked to Mike and he says the car will be fine. I can wait on the oil change until we arrive at our destination. We need to take it to Wally World so that we can get a free tire repair too. Yay! I didn't know how I was gonna fit that in!

Yummy Toes

This is going to be a picture blog:

Here's Remington and Brody hangin' out.
Just a cute picture of our boy.

Brody has discovered his feet...and now he loves putting them in his mouth! I had to see if I could do it or not too. I could get my foot there...but not quite close enough to get my toe in my mouth (not like I want to do that anyways!) And NO, I didn't take a picture of me trying. I know you're laughing...but I bet you Megan and Shauna have tried it too! lol

Remington likes to lay down next to Brody. He hasn't been inside much since Brody was born, but Mike gave him a bath on Sunday and he's been hanging out inside with us. He really likes Brody!

SORRY USPS!!! it wasn't the USPS fault! Apparently the campus mail delivered my test to the wrong professors box! My professor finally got the test today and he called to apologize. Whew! I have to brag on myself...I only missed 11 out of 140 points giving me an A in the class. YAY!!! That was a nice Christmas present :)

Lost in the Mail

I have very few complaints with the USPS. Our mail is delivered the same time every day and usually is very efficient! My mom can send something from TX and we'll get it in 2 days. Patty (our mail lady) does have one fault. She leaves packages on our propane tank! Now...if you know know that it's windy here! How she expects square boxes to stay put on a round propane tank in 30 mph winds blows my mind! I think she's scared of Trevor (the 5 lb yorkie) so she doesn't want to get out of her car to put it on the porch.

Anyways...that wasn't what this post was supposed to be about. My main complaint with the USPS right now is with their delivery of an envelope. I took the final exam for my accounting class at the local learning center (it had to be proctored) and they mailed it to my professor (30 miles away) on December 7th! I received an email from him on Friday saying he hadn't received my exam and would be giving me an incomplete in the class. He said he'll change the grade once he receives the exam. Usually the tests get to his office the day after I take them. I could've driven the test to him quicker than the USPS is delivering it! I'm not sure what he'll have me do if the test never makes it there. I pray that he won't make me retake it! (It was a comprehensive final over 9 chapters!) Please pray that the USPS will get their act together and deliver my test to my professor....soon!!!!

A few pics

The memory card for my new camera hasn't arrived I can only take 10 pictures before I have to upload them to my computer! So...I haven't gone picture crazy yet. Hopefully it'll get here early this week! Here's one of the shots I captured of Brody the other day.

When I was messing with the camera Trevor decided to take care of the drool on Brody's face! Luckily I had space left for a picture. Of course I told Trevor to stop...but I had to take a picture first!

Yesterday Jim (Grandpa), Nancy (Grammy), and Great-Grandma K came over for a Christmas lunch. Grandpa and Grammy enjoyed getting to see Brody. He was a good baby while they were here for a visit (even when Grandpa got him up early from his nap! lol)

My New Baby

Christmas came early at our house. Tuesday night Mike and Brody snuck off into the bedroom for a "secret project". I was told I was not allowed back there. Mike emerged with two presents that he and Brody wrapped. I was instructed to sit down and open them. I said, "Now? Christmas is still almost 2 weeks away!" Mike said that it was something that I needed to use on Christmas, so I needed to open it early to learn how to use it. I have pictures of me opening the present...but I forgot to upload them from home. Maybe I'll remember to add them later :)

Anyways...I opened up the box to find a new digital camera. A REALLY NICE ONE! It's a fujifilm s6000fd. I'm sooooo excited about this present! The second box had a camera case that will hold both the new camera, our video camera, and all their accessories! I've been carrying the manual around in my purse...but I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Maybe today. Be ready for many more pictures!!!

Brody had his 4 month doctor's appointment yesterday. He did really well (smiled at the nurses and Debbie)...then came time for the shots. He had to have 4 shots (2 in each leg). I was so glad that Mike was able to go with me. He held down Brodys arms while they gave him the shots. His little body tensed up so tight and he was SCREAMING! The nurses gave him the shots and then left the room. Mike and I were left in there with a little baby that was crying so hard and we couldn't get him to calm down. I tried nursing him...but he was crying so hard he couldn't breathe to nurse! Finally Mike soothed him enough to walk outside without too much of a ruckus. Whew! Glad that's over...for now.

Brody weighed in at 15 pounds 3 ounces (in the 60th percentile) and was 26 3/4" long (90th percentile). Debbie said that once he starts showing an interest in what we're doing when we eat that it will be ok to start him off on rice cereal.

Something REALLY exciting happened last night...but my picture of it is at home so you'll have to wait to find out. Instead I'll finally get around to answering the questions that Megan tagged me over a week ago!

B - Best Friend: Mike is my best friend, my parents and Julie L. come in 2nd :)
C - Cake or Pie: PIE, pecan, Grandmommy's chocolate, my caramel apple crunch

G - Gummy Bears or worms: worms
H - Hometown: Arlington, Texas

N - Number of Siblings: 3 brothers & 3 sisters (well...only 2 brothers but I consider my in-laws siblings now...I always wanted sisters :)
O - Oranges or Apples: if the apple is crispy then apples...otherwise oranges
P - Phobias or Fears: losing Mike or Brody, being home alone after dark
Q - Fave Quote: The only thing that comes to mind is a quote that I read from the Office (a show I only see when we're in TX). Not really my favorite...but the only one I can think of, "You don't call retarded people retards, you call your friends retards when they're acting like retarded people!"

Taco Soup

Isn't he the sweetest looking baby boy? We had fun doing a photo shoot at home after my mom sent Brody a Santa hat that says "Baby's First Christmas". Of course then I had the song "Santa Baby (only insert Brody rather than Baby)" stuck in my head for the rest of the weekend! lol

He was so sweet that morning while we took pictures...but later on it was a different story. On Friday night I made some taco soup. It is sooooo yummy on a cold day. It has beef, tomatoes, and different kinds of beans. Lots of different beans. BEANS! Can you tell that's where the trouble began?

I ate the soup Friday night and Saturday for lunch. Saturday afternoon/evening Brody was kinda fussy and I wondered if it was the soup. I've never eaten anything that's affected him adversely, so I just chalked it up to him having a fussy afternoon and ate the soup again for lunch on Sunday. I now know that I was wrong. Brody was not a sweet smelling baby on Sunday night. He had 3 dirty diapers in 45 minutes before we left for Bible study, 2 at Bible study, and another one after we got home! Yikes!

So let's look at the positive side...I learned that Brody can't handle that many beans at once. I learned the art of quickly unbuttoning his onesie as soon as I hear the explosion just in case the diaper decided to leak so that I wouldn't have to change his clothes again. And most importantly...I finally got a chance to open the Mylicon my cousin Julie bought me :)

Today is my baby brother's 22nd birthday! Where have the years gone! It's hard to believe that Caleb, Tyler, and I are all married...and that I have a son of my own! I have so many fond memories of times with my brothers. We played outside a lot as kids: cowboys & indians, tag, games in the pool, sports, etc. We set up numerous forts inside and out and spent a lot of time using our creative minds for unique games that didn't make sense to adults (remember Aliens?) lol. I don't have very many old pictures on my computer...but I'll share a few that I have.

Tyler, Mike, & Caleb getting ready for Caleb's bachelor party.

This picture makes me laugh becuase none of us seem to notice that Tyler is screaming his head off!

Tyler, Caleb, Staci, & Mom

The family on a camping trip with the Rhodes.

Tyler, Caleb, & Josh (cousins)

Ginger, Staci, Bryan, Tyler, & Caleb (cousins)

I love my brothers and look forward to watching their families grow in the years to come. I hope our kids have as much fun together as we did!

Happy Birthday Tyler!

Rolling Over

Brody has been rolling over (front to back) for several weeks now. This is the first time I caught it on video. I didn't have my video camera (this is on my digital camera) it's not the best quality. I'll get another one later :) He's getting to the point now that almost every time I lay him down on his tummy he rolls over! So much fun :)

Cancelled Visit

Today's a sad day. My parents were supposed to come up from TX for a visit this weekend. We haven't seen them in 1.5 months (half of Brody's life!) and won't be going to TX again until Christmas. Yesterday when I talked to Mom she didn't sound too good. She said that she had a cold. It didn't worry me because Nancy had a bad cold and was at our house all weekend a week or two ago. Mike and I have already had a cold and Brody's got a cold right now!

Then yesterday the weather took a turn for the worse. There was ice and snow thru KS, OK, & TX. Dad & Mom decided to wait until later this morning to see what the roads were like.

This morning when they woke up Mom was feeling worse and roads still weren't totally cleared. On my way home from work Dad called to tell me that Mom had gone back to bed and that they weren't coming. I'm glad that Mom will get a weekend of rest to recover from her cold. I'm also glad that I don't have to worry about them driving thru the ice/snow. But...I do have to admit that after I got off the phone with Dad I cried the rest of the way home.

Brody in the Doorway Jumper

Brody was having a really good time in the doorway jumper at the LRC.

Tuesday, November 28, 2006

Mike is on the mend. Yesterday we went back to the doctor. They removed the stitches and set up Mike's first therapy appointment for this Wednesday. I think they want him to do therapy twice a week. Hopefully it will help him recover quicker and aid his knee in healing properly!

Brody comforts Mike while Mike is icing his knee.

We went to western KS for Thanksgiving. Mike's grandparents and some other extended family still hadn't met Brody! It was a hard trip for Mike....but we made it! He ate lunch and then made it down the stairs to the family room and the comfy recliner. He stayed there until we left Fridy morning :)

Mike, Staci, Nancy, Grandpa & Grandma Brown, and Brody.

The Cowboys watching the Cowboy game :)

Saturday we had a surprise visit from a couple that went to college with Mike. I hadn't seen Justin & Christy in 3 years and Mike hadn't seen them in over 5 years! We also got to meet their little boy, Gabriel. He was such a cutie! It was fun to get to catch up with old friends.

Road to Recovery

The surgery is we just have the long road of recovery ahead of us!

The surgeon decided to repair the tear in Mike's meniscus rather than cut it out since he would've had to remove so much to get rid of the torn part. If it heals this will be better in the end, however, there is a 30% failure rate. This means that there's a 1 in 3 chance that Mike will have to go back in for a second surgery to have the repaired part removed!

Recovery time will be much longer since they repaired the tear. Mike is in a brace from his ankle to his upper thigh and will have to wear it for 6 weeks. He is in a tremendous amount of pain right now. He can't even get up off the couch and use crutches to get to the bathroom without severe agony. I'm really hoping that the pain subsides soon!

Nancy came over on Friday night and made chicken noodle soup and helped me clean house and care for Mike. I'm sleeping on the living room floor so that I can get Mike anything he needs during the night (he's only sleeping 10 minutes here and 10 minutes there). He's been drinking plenty of fluids and has been able to eat mild foods.

Please pray that the pain will become tolerable soon and that Mike will be stable enough to go visit his grandparents for Thanksgiving! You can also pray that Brody will be a happy baby this week :)

I'll post more when I'm not so tired!

Morning Commute

You may think that I have a boring drive to work since I live in the middle of nowhere. No billboards, no traffic jams, no wrecks....what is there to look at during the 20 mintue morning commute? Just because I drive to work when it's still pitch black outside (4:30 am) doesn't mean there isn't excitement on my way to work! Here's what I saw today:
2 raccoons (1 alive, 1 roadkill)
3 deer
1 coyote
1 cat
1 dog
1 red fox
2 rabbits
4 cars
a field of cows (ok...maybe I could just smell them)
and my favorite...2 shooting stars!

Growin' Like a Weed

Can you believe that it was 3 months ago that Brody was born? Three months ago at this time I was in immense pain! lol! It was worth it! We have enjoyed every minute with our little boy. It's hard to believe how fast he's growing! It's so much fun to watch him discover new things and to see new expressions on his face.

Here's his 3-month football picture:

Ok...maybe he hasn't really grown that much ;) That's one of his toy footballs. He was trying to trick you to think he's bigger than he really is.

Here's a picture of him with the real football :)

In other news...I took Mike to the doctor yesterday only to find out that he wasn't going to be able to have his MRI until today. So we go back today at 1:00 pm for the MRI. Thursday we go back for the MRI results and surgery prep...then Friday they do the surgery. Although, they didn't give us a surgery time for Friday, so I'm hoping they have it scheduled in! They're a very busy practice! Mike felt MUCH better last night after getting his new pain meds and anti-nausea medication. Both meds made him very drowsy, so Brody and I tried to play quietly so Mike could get some much needed sleep.

Men's Retreat

Did you know that a church men's retreat can be dangerous?

Our church is having a men's retreat this weekend. Last night was game night (basketball, board games, card games, etc) along with pizza and a speaker. Today they are having a breakfast, a few sessions with the speaker, chili for lunch, and (Mike's favorite) a skeet shoot! Mike spent yesterday afternoon setting up a 5-station skeet shoot competition for the guys to use today. He won the shoot last year and has been practicing this week so that he could try to win again. He's VERY disappointed that he's not going to get a chance to shoot today.

Last night he was playing basketball at the game night and hurt his knee. At first he thought it was just sprained, but then the pain greatly intensified. It got to the point where 2 guys (Terry & Jack) carried him out to the car and Bob rushed him to the hospital. His knee was locked in a bent position and he was unable to straighten it out. They did an x-ray and found that the bone was ok. They said he tore his meniscus and that they needed to straighten it out. The ER doctor tried to straighten it out (after giving Mike a pain shot in his leg) and it was too painful. So...they put in a call to the orthopedic doctor.

At 10:00 I was sitting on the couch feeding Brody when I saw a car pull up our driveway. It was so dark outside that I couldn't tell who it was. I knew it wasn't Mike (you know how loud his truck is! lol). So I picked up the phone to call Mike to see if he knew who would be coming to our house so late. It was then that I realized my phone was dead. I ran to the bedroom to plug my phone in and called him. He said it was Terry coming to tell me that Mike was in the hospital! To make a long story short, I called Teri and she came over to watch Brody while I drove to the hospital (thanks so much Teri!!! You're a lifesaver!!!)

When I got there Mike's knee was still stuck in a bent position. Bob (who just happens to be a nurse) was still there just trying to help Mike find a comfortable position. They gave him another shot for the pain and we waited for the orthopedic Dr. He got to the hospital around midnight and gave Mike a shot deep into his knee with a numbing agent. He said this would help Mike to be able to relax and hopefully they could get the let straight. He said that when you tear your meniscus (the cartilage behind the knee) it can flip up into the joint locking your knee. When you get it straightened out then the cartilage should lay back down flat and give you movement in your leg.

We waited for the numbing agent to take effect and then the Dr. tried to straighten Mike's leg. It was still too painful (and if you know know pain has to be unbearable before he shows you that he's in pain!) The Dr. left to go book Mike a room in the hospital. Mike kept working on his leg trying to straighten it. Finally he grimaced and tried really hard. I heard a loud pop and Mike was writhing in so much pain that I had to push against his body to keep him from falling off the bed!

I went to find the Dr and he was happy to see that Mike got the leg straight! He wrote a prescription for codeine and told Mike to come into his office on Monday for an MRI. He said they'll probably have to do orthoscopic surgery sometime next week to remove the torn cartilage.

We made it home a little after 2:00 am. Needless to wasn't an easy night of sleep for Mike. This morning he fell asleep on the couch with Brody while watching their "man cartoons" (aka home building shows). I'm sad that he's not getting to go do the skeet shoot (he tried to convince me last night that he'd be able to do it today...but he had changed his mind by this morning). I'm very thankful that it's not any worse than it is. I guess if there's a year for this to happen...this is the one. With Brody being born this year we're already pretty close to our total out of pocket! I think I have a few moles that I need removed. I wonder what else we need to have done this year?

Near Death Experience

GG has told me that every morning when she wakes up she prays for my protection. She knows that I get up early to go to work and she said she prays that God keeps me safe on my commute. He answered her prayers yesterday.

I was driving home from work and was talking to my parents on my cell phone (like I do many days on my way home). The "highway" is a 2 lane road with a speed limit of 60 mph. It's a straight road (like most KS roads) where you can see for miles. I could see a red Chevy S10 pickup with a topper on the back coming towards me in the opposite lane. He swerved over into my lane a little so I was keeping an eye on him. As he got closer I realized that he was still in my lane! This really isn't too unusual on a 2 lane road...but usually people move back into their lane before they get too close to you. I kept waiting for him to move back into his lane. Suddenly he was directly in front of me! I swerved off the road (at 60 mph!) to avoid being hit head on! It was such an instant reaction and when I swerved off I did a MAJOR "no-no"... I swerved right back onto the highway! The shoulders along the highway are gravel/grass/dirt shoulders. The way I swerved off and back on at 60 mph I really should've rolled the car!

All my parents heard was me yell an obscenity (I think I said "Holy Crap!"). Then I was crying as I told them what happened. Dad immediately said a prayer thanking God for protecting me and Brody. I called Mike when I got home to tell him what happened and was still so shaken up that I cried as I told him about it!

Thanks GG for praying for me every day. I don't know God's plan for all the days of my life...but I know that yesterday wasn't the day for me to go Home. I wonder why? I wonder what plans he has in store for me? It's exciting to think about!

Alarm Clocks

I don't have time to post much right now...but I wanted to update you on the sleep deprivation.

Last night Brody was back to sleeping thru the night! Yay! I'm hoping he got it all out of his system Tuesday morning and will go back to sleeping thru the night every night ;)

It would've been a perfect morning if my alarm clock worked. I'm gonna have to buy a new one (and no...I can't wait until Christmas and get it as a gift!!!) That makes 2 times this week that it hasn't worked! I knew it was going out...but I thought that as long as I set it "just right" (you had to jiggle the button until the alarm light was on full power) that it worked. It's a good thing my watch alarm was set as a backup. It woke me up at 4:30. So I RUSHED to feed/change Brody, grab my bags, and run out the door. I feel asleep on the couch last night (hmmm...wonder why?) so I didn't make my lunch last night like usual and didn't have time to make it this morning. I guess Subway will have some extra business today :)

Sunday Schedules?!?!?

We had a good weekend. Saturday Mike mowed in the morning while Brody and I cleaned house. Then we all went to town. We took Brody to one of the hunting/outdoor stores and looked at all the fun baby camo stuff. Of course we also had to make our stops at Lowes, Wal-Mart, Orschlens, and Tractor Supply. We went to China Star for lunch/dinner and learned how hard it can be to eat out with a baby (very different from eating out with a newborn who sleeps the whole time)! Brody was really fighting sleep. I ended up taking him outside and walking around for 20 minutes! When I came back in one of the waitresses said, "You're back!" lol. He finally fell asleep and we were able to finish our meal. Brody with his stuffed moose from Tyler and Ann.

Both Saturdy and Sunday Brody slept until 6:30 am!!!! We were very excited about this. We tried something new on Sunday that I don't think we'll be trying again soon. I pumped a bottle right before we left for church. So...instead of feeding Brody at 8:30 (like normal) we thought we'd give him a bottle during Sunday school (9:30 am) and then he'd make it thru church without me having to leave to feed him. Well.....he didn't want anything to do with the bottle and was screaming his head off. Mike gave him to me and I took him to the cry room. Of course he didn't want the bottle from me (why would he when he knows the "real thing" is right there?)...but since I pumped before church...I didn't have any of the "real thing" left! lol. After a long time of crying (on his I FINALLY got him to take the bottle. By the time he finished it, class was over! LOL! To make it an even bigger mook (for a definition of "mook" check out Megan's blog)...he didn't even make it thru church! Mike had to take him out. Boy are Sundays hard schedulewise! Anyone have them all figured out? Let me know if you have some advice for us!

Here are some pictures of our 'lil punkin. Isn't he cute!?!

Some of my BBC friends were talking about putting their babies in their exercausers. So, I decided to see if Brody was big enough to play in the exercauser I got at a garage sale last summer. He is! He even likes it! He's not really big enough to move around much in it...but it gives him some play time where he's not lying flat on the ground!
He tends to get focused in on one of the toys for awhile! lol

Saturday was Daddy/Brody day. Mike took Brody to town with him while I stayed at home and cleaned house. They went to Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and Orschlens! They were both worn out when they got home :)

I'll post pictures later today of Brody in his pumpkin outfit.

Baby Perfume

I know that Grandmommy, GG, and Sharon are having a hard time waiting until Christmas to get to hold I thought I'd tell a story that might make waiting a little easier ;)

Brody does something that's not very pleasant. He spits ups a lot! Mike and I smell like spit up most of the day (meaning all day except for the first 1/2 hour after we've had a shower....I guess Mike probably smells pretty good at work all day since he doesn't get the spit up cologne until after he gets home). Yesterday during Sunday school I took Brody to the nursery to change his diaper. They wanted to keep him in I went on back to class and left him in the capable hands of Christy and Kim. When I went back to pick him up Kim said he'd spit up several times. After church I found Teri holding Brody. She was wisely holding the burp rag too...however Brody decided to turn his head and soak her sweater (it even ran down her pant leg!) Last night was our church's Fall Harvest Party and Brenda held Brody while I ate. Of course he soaked her in his baby perfume. So I think yesterday's count for the number of people Brody spit up on was.....6! It's a good thing he's cute!

Brody Fix

I was wondering why no one had commented on my post from yesterday. I finally went to check my blog and discovered that the post had never uploaded from Picasa. Sorry! I posted some pictures yesterday morning for those of you who check every day for new pics to satisfy your Brody fix ;)

Brody dressed up for work on Friday. He wore his jean jacket and cords. He was all smiles when we got home from work and I asked if he was ready for a photo shoot ;)

I sure hope he's not allergic to having his picture taken!

"Hi Mama. You look kinda funny from that angle!"

This is a picture of Brody at work with me. He was really happy because I'd just nursed him and changed his diaper :)

In other news...Brody has started sucking on his fist. He usually ends up sucking on the pointer finger (you'll notice it glistening in the picture of him sneezing above). Hummm. I wonder if it'll turn into thumb sucking?

I was worried that Brody was gonna wake up really early this morning due to the time change. Just the opposite happened! He slept grrrrrrrreat!!! He slept 9 hours. Yay!!!

The batteries are out of his bouncy seat right now. As he is sitting here in it while I type...he's starting to get fussy. I figured out how to make him stop crying. I bend over the top of the bouncy seat and start singing the songs that it plays (when it has batteries). Keep in mind that it's Baby there are no words...just classical music. If you're laughing picturing me doing this you'll have something in common with my boy :)

Cute Boy

Brody has slept thru the night 3 nights in a row!!! It's wonderful to wake up to your alarm clock (even if it does go off at 3:50 am) and realize that you didn't have to get up with the baby during the night!

This past weekend I was busy studying for yet another accounting Brody and Mike got a lot of father-son time. I don't have much else to blog about right now. I'll just pass along some recent pictures of Brody :)
Brody is ready to go to work on a cold morning. He's in a warm footed sleeper, wearing the camo stocking cap from Mark & Angela, and has a John Deere fleece blanket on top of him!

Brody in his Pooh robe/towel after a bath.

Brody - Future Hunter

Brody at 10 weeks. He kept smiling at me...but the camera was just too slow to catch it :)

Taking pictures really wears a boy out! Last night he didn't play very long before he was sound asleep! Posted by Picasa

Walking Partner

Last night Mike and I took Brody on a walk. As usual, Remington and Trevor (our dogs) went along with us. However, last night we had a new walking companion. You can see Hank to the left of Mike in the picture below and to the right of me and Trevor in the pic below that. That's right, one of our cats decided that he wanted to go on the walk too. We walked about a mile and he followed along the whole way! He hangs around Remington all the time and we're beginning to think that he thinks he's a dog too!

We went walking at the perfect time. The sun was setting. One of our neighbors, Steve, was out cutting milo. It made a gorgeous picture! Posted by Picasa
