Alone Time

How often do you spend time alone with your spouse? If you don't have kids (or if they've already left the nest), you probably get quite a bit of alone time. If you have little ones at home, your alone time is usually an hour or so after the kids are in bed...at the end of an exhausting day. Since Mike and I were married 7 years before Brody was born, we had plenty of practice spending time with each other. Even though we now have less alone time together on a daily basis, we savor that time together. This past weekend we enjoyed a plethora of moments where it was just the two of us!

Friday night we put the kids to bed and then enjoyed listening to the rain while we watched a movie together. We stayed up way too late...but we were just having so much fun together!

Saturday morning the kids were up bright and early (of course...it must have been because we stayed up late) so Mike and Brody headed off to the donut shop to get our breakfast. It was still raining (meaning no swimming...although Brody kept asking us if we've ever swam in the rain...I think he was looking for a reason for it to be ok to ask to go swimming). Since it was raining, Brody started asking to go to Daddy Steve and Namaw's house. Daddy Steve had to leave on Sunday for a business trip, so we'd promised Brody that he could spend some time with him on Saturday. We finally took the boys over to their house around lunch time. The boys got to go to Cabela's with Daddy Steve and Namaw. You HAVE to go to Dad's blog and read the post about it. The video cracks me up!!

Since we were kid-free for the rest of the day, we spent some time shopping (although we didn't buy anything) and ate lunch out (yes, we only went to Steak-n-Shake...but it was yummy and it was just the TWO of us!) Caleb and Mike went to the gym in the late afternoon/early evening, so we didn't head to dinner until a little after 7 pm. We had a yummy dinner at Johnny Carino's (I had lobster ravioli!) and then stopped at the grocery store for some dessert.

At home we watched another movie and a half (Benjamin Button...which we didn't know was soooo sad...so we had to start a comedy after it was over so that we could go to bed happy rather than sad...we started Fun with Dick and Jane...definitely not a serious movie! lol) Thanks to Daddy Steve and Namaw, we got to sleep in on Sunday morning! It was crazy! We woke up at 8:45!!!!! (I can't remember the last time I slept that late). Of course, we're used to Barrett or Brody waking us up on Sunday mornings, so we really had to rush to get to Sunday school on time.

Even though it was less that 24 hours previous that we'd dropped the kids off at my parents' house, we really missed the kids! Time alone with my husband is great (and necessary)...but we love being together with our kids too. I love my family!

I know how hard it is to get alone time with 2 kids! Glad you are able to have that time together. Scott and I enjoy hanging out on the couch together watching tv now that the girls have their own playroom and tv! It helps that they play together now!
