Car Conversations

The conversations in our car lately have mainly been about passing cars.  These are the sayings we hear over and over every car ride....

"Cool car" - 2 door sports cars or antique car

"Cheesecake" (or Kee-kay as Bri says it) - yellow cars

"Slug bug" - VW bug

"Slug bug. Slug cake. Cheesecake" - yellow VW bug

"Cool car.  Cool cake.  Cheesecake." - yellow cool car

"Cool car. Jackpot!" - more than one cool car

"Rotten cheesecake" - poop green car

"Cool car. Cool cake. Cheesecake.  Jinks.  Blackout. Cool car.  Cool cake Cheesecake.  Barrett. Barrett. Barrett!" - when both boys say it at the same time, one will says "Jinks. Blackout!" and then say it again...but I guess when you say "Blackout" you're not allowed to talk until someone says your name 3 times...so after the brother gets points for the car in question...he'll say the "Blacked out" brothers name 3 times.

"Cool car. No take backs!" - this goes too far for me...so if I hear "no take backs" then I say, "You lose! We don't allow take backs in this car."  I told them that whoever calls it first gets the point...you can't say "take back" and then say it again and you steal their point.  That just annoys me.  I can handle all the other random shout outs...but take backs create fights...so I put an end to that one.

So if Bri's riding with you and suddenly shouts out "Kee-Kay!"...she's just trying to win a game (that she doesn't really understand yet!)

Little Momma

I think Barrett has an ear infection :(  We have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, but until then he is laying on the couch crying in pain (I already gave him pain meds and ear drops...so it must be bad!)  Brianna is so concerned about him.  She keeps going and getting him a Kleenex and trying to wipe away his tears and snot!  It's so sweet to see her being a little momma to him...yet breaks my heart that he feels so bad.

Popcorn

For as long as I can remember, popcorn has been a family snack tradition. My dad always used a hand crank Whirley Pop popcorn popper...so did Grandmommy. I remember sometimes Dad would make popcorn for him and Mom after us kids went to bed. We'd hear the familiar sounds of kernels being poured into the pan...and then the squeak of the handle as he turned the crank. As soon as the popping stopped, I'd find some excuse to go into the living room (like "I'm thirsty"). Caleb, Tyler, and I never understood why they waited until after we went to bed to make popcorn sometimes...we were more than willing to help them eat it!!  Of course, there were also many nights where he made it earlier and we'd watch the Cosby show and eat popcorn.  Such fun memories.

I remember eating popcorn at Jim & Nancy's house for the first time too.  Jim made the popcorn.  What made Jim's popcorn so good was the fact that he'd melt a stick of butter and pour it over the popcorn before adding salt.  It was no where near good for us...but it sure did taste good...and you better believe Mike and I would eat the entire bowl!

Our children have always loved have popcorn for a snack too.  Just the whisper of "do you want popcorn?" has little ones jumping for joy.  Brianna has recently joined in as one of the excited ones.  She hears the popcorn popper and comes crawling to the kitchen as fast as she can and reaches up towards the counter.  I made some for the kids after school today and learned that Bri is no longer happy with having a few pieces handed to her....she wants in on the big bowl along with everyone else.  Here are a few pics from my cell phone :)
